Your braces in 60 seconds

Nine quick steps from your take-home sheets. Scroll to start.

Scroll or tap Next
Step 1 · First two days

Go soft for 24–48 hours

After new braces or an adjustment, soups, pasta, yogurt and smoothies are easiest on sore teeth.

Step 2 · Foods to skip

Skip hard, sticky and chewy

Popcorn, hard candy, ice, crusty bread, toasted bagels, gum, toffee, gummies and chewy granola bars. Also anything with bones or pits.

Step 3 · Foods to cut

Cut it before you bite

Corn off the cob. Raw carrots, celery and apples in small pieces. When in doubt, avoid it.

Step 4 · Brushing

3 times a day, 3 minutes each

Brush after every meal. If you can't, rinse your mouth with water.

Step 5 · Bedtime

Brush and floss before bed

It's the most important clean of the day. Use the threaders and small brushes we gave you to get under the wire.

Step 6 · Elastics

Fresh elastics, morning and night

Wear them exactly as your sheet shows. Carry a spare pack. Skipping them makes treatment take longer.

Step 7 · Soreness

A little sore is normal

It fades as treatment goes on. Tylenol or Advil and cold, soft foods help.

Step 8 · Something poking

Wax first, then tell us

Press wax over anything poking. Report a loose brace, band or wire to our office at (416) 555-0134. Severe pain after hours: Dr. Rowan, 416-555-0187.

Step 9 · Visits

15 minutes every 6–8 weeks

Book your next visit before you leave. Bring your elastics or retainers. Give us 24 hours' notice to change a time.
